adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Mathilda has found her forever home! Her story: Bistrita, Romania. Make way for the sweet and sugary Mathilda with the long fur and large, black button eyes! Her gaze goes straight to your heart. She sits in the public shelter in Bistrita and seems to be asking when she can finally leave. And why can't you just take her directly… With her fluffy, white fur coat, where some black spots peek out at certain spots, especially on her nose, and the friendly look from her unusually bright eyes, she is a real looker. But the special highlight are her ears in different colors. One is light, the other dark. This makes the beautiful Mathilda something very special. Mathilda is currently around 6 months old and has a size of about 50 cm. She is likely to grow to around 60 cm. Mathilda is the paragon of so many strays. For although she spent her life on the streets, she has learned to trust humans. She appears quite balanced and is very social with all her fellow animals. If it gets too much for her, she goes into her little house and waits until she is ready again. She lets herself be led by a collar and also goes a little on the leash. Mathilda was brought to the shelter by dog catchers who picked her up from the street where the young female dog lived. Whether she had a family before, however, remains unanswered. We assume that Mathilda is a Mioritic-mixed breed, a herding dog mix. Therefore, we are looking for an experienced home for her that has experience with these characteristics or is willing to deal with them and above all brings the optimal conditions. Herding dogs are not city dogs. They should live more in the countryside, a garden would be great and few trusted people or changing people. Herding dogs bring many great qualities. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want any other breeds, as they, despite their thick skulls, are very loyal and faithful companions. Mathilda still has a lot to learn, as an appropriate life has been denied to her so far. She wishes for sensitive people who will take her by the paw and go step by step into the new life with her. Mathilda wishes for a quiet home without many trusted people and with retreat possibilities.

About Mathilda

What life with Mathilda looks like

Mathilda is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mathilda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mathilda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mathilda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mathilda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mathilda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mathilda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mathilda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
