Once uncertain and fearful, he now runs to welcome, waving his tail as if he wanted to say, “See? I can already enjoy myself!’ He loves his temporary guardian with all his self, desires to be close, to cuddle, to put his mouth on his knees and to feel that he is safe. He still needs time with strangers – he barks because he is afraid. Just patience, peace and a little empathy. When he realizes that no one wants to hurt him, his eyes get soft and his body relaxes. He can then approach, sniff, even slightly enjoy his dog way. On walks, he feels best in quiet places – in the meadow, in the woods, where he is quiet. He likes routine, known paths and predictability. Every change of route is a challenge for him, but with a trusted man he will take this step forward – because he trusts that it is safe. In the company of another stable dog, he feels more confident – his presence gives him peace and balance. At home, he's a peaceful, grateful companion. He's clean, he likes the routine of the day, he needs closeness and a sense of someone being around. With the other dog he stays without a problem, and when he is alone, he sings for a few minutes, but then falls asleep and waits patiently. The vet's good, though tense. He never showed aggression, not even under stress. Sometimes he barks with joy, sometimes with fear – this is his way of talking about emotions. Mati is a dog who doesn't need crowds, noise or a city. He needs a man who loves him as he is – gentle, somewhat shy, but wholeheartedly devoted to those whom he considers to be "his own."
