Matilda

Cocker Spaniel · Female · Puppy · 3 months

Matilda is a spritely, clever little lady who has been working hard on learning new things in her foster home! She has almost mastered her housetraining and is currently working on her crate training and settle work. She can be left alone for short periods, but this should be built gradually as she settles in her new home. As she is still young, Matilda's adopters will need to be happy continuing her basic puppy training. True to her breed, she is quite the busy body and is always bopping about doing something so we do think breed experience would be helpful when rehoming Matilda, but this is not essential. Matilda will grow to be an active girl so will thrive with a family who will take her out for daily adventures! She travels well in the car and will benefit from fun enrichment games to keep her brain busy! If you feel Matilda could be the dog for you, please submit an application and don't forget to "favourite" her! Say hello to gorgeous Matilda! Matilda is a very sweet 12-week-old Cocker crossbreed. She came to Dogs Trust through no fault of her own and is now ready to find her forever home! We feel Matilda will be better suited to an experienced home where everyone is aged 12+ and confident around bouncy, nippy puppies. She is currently living with another dog and could share her forever home with other pets, as long as interactions will be managed during her settling in period. Matilda would be equally as happy as the only pet in her new home so she can keep all the attention to herself!

About Matilda

What life with Matilda looks like

Matilda is a puppy/kitten cocker spaniel dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matilda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matilda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matilda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matilda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Matilda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matilda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matilda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
