Information: In January and again in March 206, some of our team members visited Elisa's animal shelter in Romania for a week, where we work closely. We spend time on socialization and getting to know the pups and adult dogs as well as possible. Only the dogs we expect will be happy in the Netherlands - and their adopters with the dog - are matched by us. Pup Matteo definitely belongs to that group! Matteo is a puppy from a litter of six. Together with his littermates and their mother Annie, he was found by our contact person Elisa. Naturally, they were given shelter in her animal shelter. Unfortunately, it is very common to find dumped dogs in Romania. Many dog owners, who are generally kept outside in the garden or yard, cannot afford spaying. Therefore, the "surplus" of dogs is often simply dumped. We expect Matteo to grow into a medium-sized dog. Which breeds are represented in his (former) parents is unknown. The mother dog Annie is a small to medium-sized dog, about 40 cm at the withers. The father dog is unknown. The ultimate size of the pups remains an estimate, especially now that they are still so young. During our visit to the shelter, the pups of Annie were initially cautious. They received a lot of attention and that had results: every day the pups became a bit more confident in their interactions. Matteo came to the kennel very cautiously with our team members. Outside, he seeks a lot of support, new things are still very exciting for him. He is well guided as long as you follow his pace. He has a lot of support from his littermates, therefore we place him only in a household with an existing (stable) dog that he can attach himself to.

We besteden tijd aan socialisatie en het zo goed mogelijk leren kennen van de pups en volwassen honden. Alleen de honden waarvan we verwachten dat ze gelukkig zullen worden in Nederland - en hun adoptanten met de hond - worden door ons bemiddeld. Pup Matteo hoort daar zeker bij! Matteo is een reutje uit een nestje van zes. Samen met zijn nestgenootjes en hun moeder Annie is hij gevonden door onze contactpersoon Elisa. Vanzelfsprekend kregen ze onderdak in haar asiel. Helaas is het heel normaal om in Roemenië gedumpte honden te vinden. Veel eigenaren van honden, die over het algemeen niet in huis maar in de tuin of op het erf worden gehouden, kunnen een sterilisatie niet betalen. En dus worden het "overschot" aan honden vaak zondermeer gedumpt. We verwachten dat Matteo zal uitgroeien tot een middenmaat hond. Welke rassen er in zijn (voor)ouders vertegenwoordigd zijn, is onbekend. Mama hond Annie is een kleine middenmaat hond, ongeveer 40 cm schofthoogte. De vader hond is onbekend. De uiteindelijke grootte van de pups blijft dus een schatting, zeker nu ze nog zo jong zijn. Tijdens ons asielbezoek waren de pups van Annie in eerste instantie afwachtend. Ze hebben veel aandacht gekregen en dat had resultaat: elke dag werden de pups is een stukje zelfverzekerder in het contact. Matteo kwam in de kennel voorzichtig bij onze teamleden. Buiten zoekt hij vrij veel steun, nieuwe dingen vindt hij nog erg spannend. Hierin is hij wel goed te begeleiden zolang je zijn tempo volgt. Hij heeft veel steun aan zijn nestgenootjes, daarom plaatsen we hem uitsluitend in een huishouden met een al aanwezige (stabiele) hond waar hij zich aan op kan trekken.
