Matthew

Male · Young · 2 years

Matthew is a handsome lad, who loves people and dogs alike. He would prefer for his new family to be around for the majority of the day while he settles in as he might struggle being left on his own initially. He will also need a bit of reminding on his house-training but tries his very best here in kennels! He will make a wonderful addition to any family and we can't wait to see him living it up! Meet handsome boy, Matthew! Matthew is a 2-year 10-month old Dachshund looking for his forever home! Mathew is a sweet, snuggle happy-go-lucky chap! He absolutely loves a cuddle within a nice soft blanket or just with his favourite people. He's great with dogs, he says hello and then is happy to co-exist! He could live with another dog in the home, and any children should be secondary school aged and over! He walks well on the lead and is happy being harnessed. He would love to go out on fun, sniffy adventures with his new family where he can take in all the sights and smells. He loves his food but particularly loves a cuddle with his people. He is a very affectionate boy, and can at times be a bit vocal - in typical Daxi style! We can't wait for his gentleman to find his forever home.

About Matthew

What life with Matthew looks like

Matthew is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matthew, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matthew?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matthew on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matthew if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Matthew already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matthew isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matthew and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
