Goose

Mastiff · Male · Young · 3 years

Goose will also need some help with house training and settling into a home environment, so his new family should be prepared to be patient and consistent while he learns the routines of home life. In return, you'll gain a loyal, loving companion who has already overcome so much and is ready for the next chapter of his life with a family who can help him reach his full potential. If you're looking for a sweet-natured dog with lots of love to give and are willing to continue his training and support, Goose could be the perfect match for you. 🐾 Meet Goose – A Big Softie Looking for His Forever Home Goose is a large-breed dog with a huge heart and an equally big personality. He is a very sweet, affectionate boy who loves people and is always happy to make new friends. He can be quite bouncy and enthusiastic, so he would benefit from an owner who can continue his training and help him channel his energy appropriately. Sadly, Goose had a difficult start in life and arrived in our care extremely underweight. Thanks to lots of love and care, he has made an amazing recovery and is now thriving. It's been wonderful to see his confidence and condition improve. When it comes to other dogs, Goose will need ongoing support and guidance. He can walk alongside other dogs comfortably, but he is still learning how to interact appropriately and would benefit from continued socialisation and training. For this reason, any introductions to resident dogs should be managed carefully. He could live with sensible secondary-school-aged children who are familiar with larger, energetic dogs and won't be knocked over by his excitement. His suitability around cats is currently unknown.

About Goose

What life with Goose looks like

Goose is a extra-large young adult mastiff dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Goose, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Goose?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Goose on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Goose if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Goose already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Goose isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Goose and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
