Mausi

European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 13 years

I am Mausi … an older, self-assured female cat who unfortunately lost her home. Now I hope for a second chance at great happiness. That’s me: I’m friendly when it’s quiet around me and you don’t pressure me. Then I also enjoy being close and can really become cozy. At the same time, I’m not a cat who just lets everything happen – like most furballs, I know pretty well what I want and what I don’t. Fixation and coercion are not my thing at all. That’s why it’s important that my people respect my signals and can read me. I’m a bit older now and wish for one thing above all: peace, security, and a relaxed everyday life. As a cat of a certain age, I’m self-assured but also active. Mental stimulation and enough space with retreat areas – that’s the perfect mix for me. I wish for … a quiet home without children with people who ideally already have cat experience. I would rather be a single princess and have my people all to myself. Patience and understanding are what I need – then I’ll also show my loving side. Could this work for us? I would be delighted!

DE·Show original

About Mausi

What life with Mausi looks like

Mausi is a large senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Berlin in Berlin.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mausi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mausi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mausi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mausi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mausi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mausi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mausi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
