Max

German Shepherd · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Max was purchased from a "breeder" via Anibis.ch. It quickly became apparent that their owners were overwhelmed with the young dog, and there were also animal welfare-incompatible living conditions. Since the "breeder" could not or would not take back the male dogs, Max came to us at our shelter. Max is a very insecure and often fearful young dog at first. However, once he builds trust, he warms up and enjoys cuddles very much. Typical of the breed, Max is active and intelligent. He learns new things quickly, even if they sometimes scare him at first. Unfortunately, in his young life, the handsome male dog hasn't experienced or learned much that was beautiful. Therefore, new situations are often difficult for him; then he prefers to take a step back or fall into the "freeze." To give Max a second chance at a beautiful new life, we are looking for dog-experienced owners, ideally with experience with young dogs. A visit to dog training classes or dog training is mandatory for Max. In some cantons, a permit is also required for the German Shepherd. Leisibachstrasse 16037 Root041 450 00 Montag – Freitag:

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a puppy/kitten german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim an der Ron.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim an der Ron handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim an der Ron will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim an der Ron early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
