Max

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Max is a medium-sized, adult dog of the Scottish sheepdog type. He arrived with a tag that read "aggressive" – he didn’t get along with a child that appeared in his previous home. What was a problem for some, was simply an incomprehensible end of the world for Max. The first few weeks at the animal shelter were very difficult for him. He was afraid. He avoided contact. He sat in a corner of his kennel with hope that a familiar face would come to take him away. Time passed. Max was not taken away… but slowly he began to understand that people here also want what’s best for him. Today, he is already a completely different dog. He is still cautious, but he is smiling more often. He approaches for pats more boldly, brings balls, clearly encouraging play. He knows basic commands, walks on a leash with exemplary behavior, and every walk is a mini holiday for him. We are looking for a peaceful home for him, one without children, but with patient, adult caregivers who will give him the time and space to regain his trust. We are still unsure of his relationship with other dogs, but he does not show aggression behind a fence. Max is looking for an ideal home where he will feel safe and loved. Will you give him a second chance?. This animal is not suitable for homes with children.

PL·Show original

Max to średniej wielkości, dorosły pies w typie owczarka szkockiego.

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
