Maxa

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Kitten · 4 months

Maxa is one of those cats who immediately proves how adaptable and determined animals can be. Although she has very limited vision and is estimated to be around eighty percent blind, she moves through life with impressive confidence and independence. Her eyesight has been impaired since the day she was found, meaning she has had years to learn how to navigate the world using memory, sound, scent, and familiarity with her environment. Cats often adapt astonishingly well to vision loss and Maxa is a perfect example of that. She does not spend her life frightened or helpless. Instead, she has built her own way of interacting with the world and carries herself with a calm self assurance that many fully sighted cats never develop. When Maxa was first rescued, she was also suffering from a very serious leg injury. Thankfully, that injury healed fully long ago and no longer affects her quality of life. What remains now is simply a strong, experienced cat who has already survived far more than she should ever have had to. Personality wise, Maxa is absolutely not timid. In fact, she has a wonderfully bossy side, especially around kittens. She seems to view young cats as mildly incompetent little creatures in desperate need of supervision and discipline. She will happily correct them, put them in their place, and generally behave as though she is responsible for maintaining order in the household. It is less true bullying and more the energy of a strict older sister who believes standards must be maintained. With adult cats, she socialises very well and understands feline communication naturally despite her visual limitations. She is comfortable living alongside other cats and integrates nicely into multi cat environments. She is also very good with humans and enjoys affection and interaction. Because visually impaired cats often rely more heavily on familiarity and trust, Maxa would likely appreciate a home with stable routines and people who allow her to settle in at her own pace. Once comfortable, cats like her often form very strong bonds with their humans because they depend so much on recognising voices, movements, and predictable environments. Future adopters should understand that while Maxa functions extremely well, visually impaired cats do benefit from consistency within the home. Keeping furniture layouts relatively stable and providing safe, predictable environments helps them navigate confidently and independently. At four and a half years old, Maxa is mature enough that her personality is fully established. She is not a chaotic kitten anymore but an emotionally balanced adult cat with a strong sense of herself, a little bit of attitude, and plenty of affection to give. Most importantly, Maxa does not see herself as broken or limited. She simply experiences the world differently. Underneath the reduced eyesight and old injuries is an intelligent, funny, capable cat who still fully expects to supervise the household and remind kittens how to behave properly.

About Maxa

What life with Maxa looks like

Maxa is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Amospet in Skopje.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇲🇰Adopting from North Macedonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Amospet handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Amospet will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maxa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Amospet early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
