adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt Maya! Maya can stay forever! Your story: Some stories touch you right in the heart – like the story of Maya. This very young female Husky dog is still in her early stages of life but has already endured more hardships than many other animals in their entire lives. She was found chained up at a place that barely offered her a chance for movement, where she was rarely fed and sometimes had to go without fresh water for days. Thankfully, our fabulous animal rescuers saved her, and the dog god had it good with her, because Maya was able to travel to Germany to a foster home quite quickly. There, the sweet fur-nose is developing beautifully and hopes to finally arrive in a forever home. What immediately catches the eye about Maya are her sparkling blue eyes and her friendly nature. Her foster family describes her as a "cinnamon mouse with a temper," who makes small daily progress with her eager and willing to learn attitude. Currently, she is learning to walk on a leash with focus, basic commands like "sit!" and "stay!" no longer cause her any trouble. The training of being alone is consistent. Despite the harsh circumstances she has endured, she has not lost her zest for life and her trust in humans. She greets everyone kindly, enjoys attention, and is grateful and cuddly. Of course, walks are still very exciting for her. Fellow animals she meets on the way can slightly unsettle Maya, she would like to hunt squirrels – here, dog owners will likely smile, as this passion is shared by many dogs like Maya. The sweet mouse is likely a purebred Husky and brings with her the typical nature of this breed: she is smart, active, and clingy, and wants to share something with her people. Currently, puberty is causing a lot of fuss in her pretty head. With proper care, a little patience, and empathetic consistency, she will become a loyal companion who enjoys her new life with joy. compatibility with others Maya has already proven her compatibility with other dogs. Whether she also likes cats and accepts them can be tested if interested, so that multi-pet households also have a chance to get to know Maya. Do you want to go through thick and thin with our charming female Husky and enjoy her blue eyes every day? Her luggage is packed. She also brings her EU pet passport. Status: 10.12. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 10.12.2025

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
