Shelter Greet Input June 14, 2026: Maya appeared on December 28, 2024, in the countryside, accompanied by her two brothers and sisters, who were still puppies at the time. They were immediately brought to the local animal shelter in Priego de Córdoba and we named them the P-brothers and -sisters: Pippa, Pepper, and Polvorón. Because they were puppies, the adoption process was quick, and a month later, on January 28, 2025, Maya traveled with one of her brothers and sisters, Shai (their current name), to her new family. Everything seemed to be going well, but as they grew up, they were not getting along well with the family's cats. Therefore, on January 28, 2026, Maya and Shai were returned to the animal shelter in Priego de Córdoba. Shai, a black dog you can see in the photos, was adopted again and received a new chance in May. Maya is still waiting for her chance. Maya is a very special dog, the result of a mixed breed between a Podenco and an Akita. She has inherited some of the most characteristic traits of both breeds: the energy, curiosity, and exploratory nature of the Podenco, combined with the strong character, intelligence, and stubbornness typical of the Akita. She is a very affectionate dog, accustomed to life and spending time with people. She loves attention, playing, learning through rewards, and yummy treats. She is also a fun and active companion, always ready to join in games with both people and other dogs. She currently lives with several other dogs and gets along well with other dogs and children. However, in her relationships with other dogs, she prefers balanced companions. Dogs that are too submissive or have a too intense personality can ensure that Maya tries to assert herself, which can lead to conflicts. She does not get along with cats. She lives 24/7 with her companions Garri, Alma, Ellah, and Qamar, and Quimey and Calypso also join the group in the mornings, along with many other dogs that have already been adopted. During walks, she displays a strong hunting instinct. When she detects potential prey or comes near barking dogs, she can become fixated on the stimulus, making it difficult to divert her attention and make her leave. Therefore, she needs walks under the supervision of someone who can handle this kind of behavior. She is very intelligent, so with a good, consistent routine and clear instructions, Maya can learn quickly. Maya is looking for a family with experience with intelligent, independent, and assertive dogs, such as the Akita, German Shepherd, Belgian Shepherd, Husky, or Border Collie. A family that values her personality, respects her needs, and is willing to work with her will make of Maya an affectionate, cheerful companion who feels deeply connected to the people in her life.

Omdat het puppy's waren, verliep de adoptie snel en een maand later, op 28 januari 2025, reisde Maya met een van haar broertjes en zusjes, Shai (hun huidige naam), naar haar nieuwe familie.
