Megara

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 5 months

Country of origin: Hungary The charming Megara arrived at the animal shelter on May 27, 2026, together with her five siblings—Nani, Mavis, Jane, and Shenzi. A day later, their sister Moana and mom Mahima joined them. They were found in Méntelek, a village near Kecskemét. Someone clearly abandoned an entire dog family out of cowardice... out of sight, out of mind, leaving them to their fate. It hardly needs to be mentioned that none of the dogs had microchips. It’s simply heartbreaking—and there seems to be no end in sight... Unfortunately, the dogs were so fearful that they had to be caught using live traps. We don’t even want to imagine how they’ve lived until now or what they’ve been through. We can’t change their past, but their future is very close to our hearts. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this dog family, hoping that soon all family members will get their second chance and finally find happiness. Of course, they don’t have to be rehomed together. Despite all the hardship, the siblings were lucky enough to grow up by their mother’s side. Mahima was a caring and loving dog mom. The siblings are shy, insecure, anxious, and reserved—a reaction that’s understandable given their history—and they first need to learn that there are also kind and good people out there. They’re being worked with, but they’re still at the beginning of their journey, and the noisy, stressful environment of the animal shelter isn’t helping either. They all need patience and understanding to gradually open up to us two-legged creatures and start trusting us; we’re already seeing small improvements. At heart, they’re loving four-legged friends who long for nothing more than to be loved, to feel settled, to find peace, and to have their own people by their side who can offer them security and guidance. The puppies get along well with other dogs of their own species. An experienced and calm second dog would be a great support for the siblings, enabling them to take one step at a time toward a new life—one where they can experience love, care, affection, and security and leave their past behind. Of course, they’re still very young and, once they’ve settled down, will need to go back to school and learn everything about doggy basics. Their humans should enjoy supporting and challenging them at their own pace. A garden and a quiet, rural environment would be important for them. For our dearest siblings, we’re looking for an empathetic, patient, experienced, and loving home—where you’re willing to accept setbacks from time to time, yet always stand by them with unwavering support and shower them with lots of love, security, care, safety, and understanding, giving them a new, happy, and dog-friendly life. Kind people who won’t place any expectations on the six right now, but instead let them settle in and set their own pace. We’re certain that this little sextet will soon make wonderful progress if only given the chance to live in their own home. It’ll be worth it—and what could be more beautiful and precious than a dog’s trust and loyalty? Who believes in these six brave puppy siblings and shows them just how wonderful life can be? Currently, the siblings are too young for spaying or neutering; their new owners will need to arrange this procedure when they’re old enough. Their final size is estimated at 48–58 cm, and their final weight at 16–24 kg. As of June 23, 2026, Megara measures 40 cm and weighs 10.4 kg. The siblings can travel starting around early August 2026, once they’ve found a permanent home or a foster placement.

About Megara

What life with Megara looks like

Megara is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Megara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Megara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Megara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Megara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Megara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Megara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Megara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
