Pippa

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Pippa is a wonderful mixed-breed female dog with a big heart for her people. She is very people-oriented, loves to snuggle, and would like to be with you wherever you go. Nearness, shared time, and clear leadership give her security, then she truly blossoms. With confident dogs, Pippa is generally compatible under good guidance. However, she absolutely needs dog-experienced people who can give her orientation and guide her through everyday situations. Dog experience is a prerequisite, as is a commitment to attending dog training classes. Currently, dog encounters are still her biggest challenge. She is learning that you don’t have to react aggressively at every dog encounter. She is making great progress and shows extreme willingness to learn and be motivated. Maintaining the right distance to other dogs is crucial. A large part of her behavior is based on insecurity and is learned. If she receives a calm, clear, and reliable leadership, she can take on responsibility and is visibly grateful when her person takes the lead. Clear structures and consistent routines also help Pippa a lot to orient herself and provide her with additional security in everyday life. Since Pippa is not a small dog, she seeks physically fit people who can also keep her safe in challenging situations. For city life, Pippa is not suited. She wishes for a more quiet environment, preferably rural or on the outskirts of town, where she is not constantly exposed to many stimuli. For Pippa, we wish for a loving home with consistent and sensitive people who enjoy working with her, giving her security, and growing together. Whoever meets her with clarity, patience, and a warm heart will receive an incredibly loyal and cuddly companion for life. This animal was abandoned.

DE·Show original

About Pippa

What life with Pippa looks like

Pippa is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Sitterhöfli in Engelburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pippa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pippa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sitterhöfli handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pippa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pippa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sitterhöfli will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pippa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pippa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sitterhöfli early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pippa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
