Merak

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

♀, born around 2020 friendly - active - lovable in Spain Merak is a mixed-breed female dog born around 2020 with a shoulder height of around 55 - 60 cm. Merak was found in the summer of 2021 with another dog in a quarter of the city and brought to the local animal shelter. She was not microchipped, and no one was looking for her or seemed to miss her. Since then, Merak has been eagerly waiting for a loving home and a cozy warm dog bed to live in security and well-being, happily, what she so much desires after such a long period of deprivation and stay in the animal shelter. Despite all the hardships in the animal shelter, Merak generally behaves quite well and enjoys every affection and attention from the shelter staff and actively seeks contact with them. She is affectionate and friendly in the company of fellow animals, although she can sometimes become a bit nervous. The young, strong, and lovable female dog now seeks, for her final happiness, engaged people who have a lot of time for her, challenge and encourage her, teach her the dog ABC with calmness and patience, ideally with regular visits to dog training classes and integrate her into their daily life, where Merak finally receives the affection and care she has been lacking. Merak is compatible with fellow animals of both sexes, although she sometimes meets them a bit hectically and could be rehomed with further sociable fellow animals, preferably of a similar age and size. For Merak, a loving home with active people who have a lot of time for her and enjoy spending time with her is sought. A quiet rural home and environment would be desirable and ideal for her. Merak will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. She is located at the animal shelter in Ciudad Real, Spain. The adoption fee for Merak is 460 Euros. About Merak

What life with Merak looks like

Merak is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
