Merida

Female · Young · 3 years

Merida is a young, intelligent and active female dog. She has many terrier-type characteristics - she is sturdy, temperamental, expressive, excitable and very people-oriented, but apparently no one taught her to regulate her emotions as a puppy, which makes this brave, strong, but also sensitive female dog badly tolerate being in a crowded animal shelter. She can relax and take a break far away on the fields, where she engages in contemplation, sniffing, counting blades of grass on the meadow and potatoes in the field - it's nice to watch how her tense, stressed body loosens under a massage break. Walks are a relief for Meridy and for the people who accompany her. And recently, we've expanded the group of walkers to include dog companions. Thanks to this, we know that Merida is very smart - she quickly figures out who is who, what their relationships are with the caregivers, and can cleverly use this knowledge to non-confrontationally gain attention or get what she planned. Her strong character impresses other dogs, and her athletic posture and even gymnastic skills inspire admiration from people. Unfortunately, in the animal shelter, we don't have the opportunity to meet her needs and provide her with proper care - Merida can expect a long, relaxing walk a few times a week, which is definitely too little to calm her frayed nerves and permanently improve her well-being. That's why we are urgently looking for a home for her! Ideally, she would find herself by the side of people who have experience in caring for a large, energetic dog. We are looking for a responsible person who will set clear rules, show patience and understanding. It is likely that she already lived in a house, so she may know the basic rules of living in an apartment. However, because she loves walks in the wilderness, she would best find herself outside a big city, in a place where there are fewer stimuli and more space to breathe. Merida to młoda, inteligentna i aktywna suczka. A ostatnio grono spacerowiczów poszerzyliśmy o psich kolegów. Jej mocny charakter imponuje innym psom, a jej atletyczna postura i wręcz gimnastyczne umiejętności budzą podziw u ludzi. About Merida

What life with Merida looks like

Merida is a large young adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: High stress levels in shelter environment, needs extensive exercise and mental stimulation

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merida, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merida?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merida on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merida if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merida already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merida isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merida and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
