adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Merino has found his home! His story: The young tomcat named Merino needs a quiet home with a family that can shower him with affection. He is, in fact, a very affectionate tomcat who loves attention from people. Additionally, he is very even-tempered and tends to avoid conflicts. Merino was found in a remote area where there is no civilization for miles. He was hungry and very thirsty. Fortunately, he was found in time and brought to one of our foster homes, where he now awaits his forever home. The origin of his "impaired" eye is unfortunately unknown. However, his vision is not restricted; he sees normally with both eyes. The little housecat is generally very uncomplicated. He can be kept as a single cat, but he also gets along well with his fellow animals, as long as they are not too "wild." Due to his background, Merino can only be rehomed as a pure indoor cat. Nevertheless, he is likely to be happy with a cat-safe netted balcony where he can relax.

About Merino

What life with Merino looks like

Merino is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
