Merlin

Labrador Retriever · Male · Puppy · 3 months

Merlin is looking for a loving family who are ready for all the fun (and hard work!) that comes with welcoming a young puppy. He’ll need plenty of time, patience and consistency while he learns the ropes, including continuing his house training, lead walking and socialisation. As Merlin is only three months old, he’ll need someone around for most of the day to begin with, with his time alone gradually built up as he grows in confidence. His new family should be ready to give him lots of positive experiences and help him develop into a happy, well-rounded adult dog. Meet Merlin, a gorgeous 14 week old Labrador Cross puppy who is enjoying time in his foster home while he waits for his forever family. Like any young puppy, Merlin is full of curiosity and is busy discovering the world around him. He loves spending time with his foster carers, enjoying plenty of cuddles and playtime before settling down for a well-earned nap. Merlin is still at the very beginning of his training journey, so his new family will need to be prepared to help him learn all about house training, lead walking and the other important skills he’ll need as he grows. As a young puppy, Merlin will need someone around for most of the day initially, with any time spent home alone introduced gradually. He’s looking for a patient and loving family who can give him the guidance, consistency and affection he needs to thrive.

About Merlin

What life with Merlin looks like

Merlin is a puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
