Merv

Beagle · Male · Adult · 7 years

I’d like a home filled with love and kindness! I can be an only dog or live with other dogs. I have never met cats. I'd like a secure garden to potter around in. I walk well on a lead and will enjoy one or two walks a day! I have never lived in a home so I will need help to learn house training. I've started my vaccinations and will be neutered before adoption. 29-06-26 Merv is a cheerful boy who has come into our care from a breeder and is now looking for a loving home where he can enjoy the life he deserves. Merv is a real character with a wonderfully happy-go-lucky personality. He loves meeting people and is always pleased to make new friends. He has settled in brilliantly with his female kennel companions and enjoys their company, while also showing what a gentle and easy-going boy he is. Merv is a clever dog who already walks nicely on a lead, although convincing him to stand still long enough for a photograph is another story! Merv gets on wonderfully with other dogs, so he would be happy to share his home with another friendly dog. However, he is confident enough that he could also be the only dog in the home, provided his adopters are around for much of the day to keep him company and include him in family life. We would also consider homing him with older dog savvy children. As Merv has never lived in a home before, he will need to learn all about house training and the other basics of living in a home. With patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, we hope he will settle into his new routine quickly. Merv can already walk on a lead, so once he has settled into his new home, he will enjoy exploring the local area on daily walks. Merv is certainly a foodie, and his love of snacks is reflected in his figure! His new family will need to help him maintain a healthy weight with sensible portion sizes, plenty of exercise, and perhaps a few less treats than he would choose for himself. Whoever adopts Merv will be gaining a truly lovely companion with a fantastic personality. Just one word of advice... make sure you keep your food safely out of reach, because if there's a snack to be found, Merv will almost certainly find it first! This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Merv

What life with Merv looks like

Merv is a adult beagle dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merv, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merv?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merv on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merv if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merv already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merv isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merv and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
