Mickey O

Male · Adult · 5 years

Mickey O – Derbyshire Adoption fee £450 4.5 years old Male, chocolate and tan smooth mini (7kg) Neutered Mickey is a smart and loving four year old boy who is looking for his forever person and a quiet and calm environment. Unfortunately a change of circumstances in his current home means he is becoming increasingly anxious and his owners have made the heart-breaking decision that he will be happier in a home where someone is around much of the time. Mickey is a very caring boy who loves nothing more than to curl up with his favourite people on the sofa and have a cosy night in. At the moment he can be destructive and distressed when left on his own – he needs to learn to relax and feel safe. For this reason, we are looking for a home where someone can be around much of the time (especially at first). You will not be on your own – our behaviourists will provide amazing support, but you will need to be prepared to spend some time on helping Mickey feel safe and training him to be alone gradually – your reward will be a bond like no other and the satisfaction of transforming a nervous dog’s life for the better. Mickey can be nervous of young children – especially babies – and needs a child-free home where he can be the centre of attention. Outside the home, Mickey loves a long walk where he can explore quietly and sniff to his heart’s content. He can be sociable with other dogs , but very much on his own terms (he lives with one at the moment, but it took him a long time to trust and accept him). He can be reactive towards strange dogs (particularly larger ones) on walks. For this reason, a large, secure garden will help Mickey get the exercise and independence he needs, particularly when he is settling in. Mickey is house-trained and currently sleeps upstairs in his human’s bed, where he is happier and calmer at night. He is in excellent health. Mickey needs someone who has the time to build a bond with him and to help him settle. He is a loving dog who needs to move quickly as his current home life is stressful and difficult for him. We would love to find this little dog his forever family sooner rather than later! Requirements for Mickey’s new home: Home where someone is home much of the time No children No other dogs or cats A private garden For more information, please email

About Mickey O

What life with Mickey O looks like

Mickey O is a large adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mickey O, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mickey O?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mickey O on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mickey O if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mickey O already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mickey O isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mickey O and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
