Rocco

Male · Adult · 5 years

Rocco – South Wales 5 years old Tweenie wire-haired Dachshund cross Jack Russell Black and tan Male, not neutered Adoption fee- £350 Rocco is a lively, affectionate and energetic boy with a big personality. He is looking for a new home because his owners’ busy lifestyle means they are no longer able to give him the time and companionship he needs. He has lived with his family since he was eight weeks old and loves attention and being involved in what is going on around him. Rocco can be stubborn and likes things his own way, so he would benefit from a patient home that can provide consistency, clear boundaries and positive training. Rocco is happy and friendly when meeting dogs outside the home and is keen to say hello and he has previously joined group walks with a dog walker. He has not lived with other animals and will need a cat-free home. He currently lives with dog savvy children. Rocco is currently left in the kitchen when his family are out. He may bark briefly as they leave, but settles once they have gone. He sleeps in his own bed in the kitchen. He has enjoyed running off lead in a secure field, although he has not been tested off lead in other environments. Rocco can become travel sick, particularly on longer journeys, and he is frightened of fireworks. Rocco is an energetic boy who would benefit from a home able to give him regular walks, attention and plenty of involvement in daily life. Requirements in a home: A cat-free home Sensible introductions to any resident dogs and dog savvy children Understanding around his travel sickness and fear of fireworks Rocco is a loving, characterful boy who has plenty of affection to offer. In the right home, with more time, structure and companionship, he will make a loyal addition to the family. For more information, please email

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a large adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
