It is crucial his next move is his last one, and we expect his next family to work with our behaviourist to ensure its success – they will need to be patient and allow him his own space, particularly at the start, so he can gradually make friends and feel safe and secure in a new home. Rocco is used to a busy family home and he loves to be involved with everything that is going on and getting involved, however, he found the energy and chaos of small children too much, so we feel he will be happier in a child-free home. He is an intelligent little dog who would love to be with active people where he can enjoy lots of doggy adventures with his new best friends. Rocco has typical dachshund-level stubbornness and he will benefit from clear boundaries and positive training. Outside the home, Rocco is sociable and friendly with dogs he does not know, however he did not like the dog in the adoptive home – anyone with a dog needs to be prepared to allow slow and careful introductions, so it is a positive experience for everyone. In the home, Rocco was left in the kitchen when his family were out. He would bark briefly but would settle and can be left for two to three hours, once settled. At night, he sleeps in his own bed in the kitchen. Rocco is in good health. He can get car-sick on longer car journeys and he is scared of fireworks. Rocco is a loving, characterful boy who has plenty of affection to offer. In the right home, with more time, structure and a willingness to take advice from our behaviourists, he will make a loyal addition to the family.
