Adopt Mico

Yorkshire Terrier · Male · Senior · 9 years

Mico - small Yorkshire Terrier seeks understanding home. Mico is a male Yorkshire Terrier currently living in a shelter in Spain and initially felt overwhelmed by his new life situation. When he arrived, he was very insecure, trembling and growling out of fear and being overwhelmed. However, after a short time, Mico began to thaw cautiously. And when he realized that the caretakers meant him no harm, he allowed closeness and eventually even enjoyed cautious petting. A move is stressful and a change for any dog. Mico has lost everything he knew so far. Therefore, his reaction with uncertainty, stress and withdrawal is not unusual. Nevertheless, we particularly hope for a home (or foster home) that gives him time and supports him empathetically in regaining security and self-confidence. We know that Mico previously lived in a household. Therefore, it is likely that he already knows some basics. However, we cannot be certain. Yorkshire Terriers and their mixes are often considered intelligent, alert and people-oriented dogs. Despite their small size, they usually have a lot of personality and want to be taken seriously in their needs. It is always important for us to emphasize: Small dogs are never accessories. Mico needs people who treat him respectfully, give him security and see him as a full-fledged dog - with the desire for orientation, engagement and rest. For Mico, we wish an understanding home where he can arrive at his own pace. With patience and clear, loving guidance, he has a good chance to gain more trust and develop into a loyal companion. Here is Mico's video.

About Mico

What life with Mico looks like

Mico is a small senior yorkshire terrier dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
