Mika

Mixed Breed · Female

Mika was faithful and devoted all her life. She lived in a house, being a companion to her caretaker. Until one day she simply was no longer needed. She had aged. And then her life became a nightmare - she ended up in a cold garage, spending days and nights chained to the wall. Without a bed. In the cold, in the dark, completely alone. We looked in through a tiny, covered window. In the half-light, she was barely visible - huddled, resigned, as if she had already gone out. When we met her, she didn't bark, she didn't run away. She approached and started wagging her tail. She hugged each of us, as if she had been waiting for this moment all her life. And that's when we understood - despite everything that had happened to her, Mika still trusted people. Today she is safe, but this is not the end of her journey. Mika is an older female dog. Very thin, with damaged teeth (most have already been removed), inflammation of the digestive tract, hypothyroidism - for which she will have to take medication for the rest of her life. We suspect she may be deaf - but she deals with it bravely. In the kennel, she behaves quietly and calmly, keeps herself clean, is very polite. She loves people, seeks closeness, cuddles with such trust that it is hard not to feel moved. She doesn't impose herself - she is just there, as if whispering: "I don't bother, just let me be close." She loves walks - she walks very lively, with energy that no one would expect from her. She is very polite in the car, eagerly absorbing the world. There is toughness in her, but also quiet strength and joy in every new day. We are looking for someone special for Miki - someone who sees more in her than her age and illnesses. Someone who will love her for who she is: gentle, calm, beautiful in her simplicity. Mika is spayed, dewormed, and up to date on vaccinations. She still needs to gain weight, but she can already live in a home. After appropriate introduction, she can live with another dog or cat. We don't know how much time she has left. But we do know that every day without a home is another injustice for her. That is why we are looking for a place for her - forever. It could be a permanent home, a temporary home, or a lifetime temporary home - with our full financial support. 💔 Full story of Miki: www.ratujemyzwierzaki.

PL·Show original

I wtedy jej życie zmieniło się w koszmar – trafiła do zimnego garażu, gdzie spędzała dnie i noce przypięta łańcuchem do ściany. Podeszła i zaczęła merdać ogonem. Mika to sunia w podeszłym wieku.

About Mika

What life with Mika looks like

Mika is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja EkoStraż in Wrocław.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja EkoStraż handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja EkoStraż will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja EkoStraż early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
