Milano

Rottweiler · Male · Adult · 4 years

Milano came to us as a last resort from an animal shelter. His previous owner could not meet the necessary requirements for his breed. Milano needed some time to adjust to us. He is very skeptical of unfamiliar people in connection with his territorial behavior. Until trust is built, everyone is kept at a distance. When Milano reaches the point where he no longer feels the need to defend his space, his joy is immense. At this point, he can barely contain himself and his entire body is pressed against the person to receive the attention and affection he then demands and needs strongly. During his daily walks, Milano is generally very relaxed to lead and is mostly leash-friendly. For Milano, his primary caregiver is so important that he would also protect this person in a moment of strong pressure. Like his territorial behavior, he is also very clear and consistent in his intentions in these situations. Therefore, Milano particularly needs a consistent leadership in these moments that takes the responsibility to protect him. Even though contact with fellow animals is desired or accepted by Milano, the demeanor of the other animal decides the interaction. For Milano, we are looking for people who can take the time to win his big heart. In addition to meeting the necessary requirements, one should be at least physically suited for him or have some experience with his breed or behavior. There should be no small children living in his new home. If you are interested in Milano, please write us a substantive email or call us. Walks well on a leash.

About Milano

What life with Milano looks like

Milano is a large adult rottweiler dog waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milano, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milano?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milano on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milano if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milano already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milano isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milano and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
