Milinda

Female · Adult · 5 years

Milinda is a sweet Stafford who enjoys the company of people. She has a social character and likes to make contact with her surroundings. Milinda is a dog with a big heart who has a lot of love to give and who would like to be part of a family. With the right attention and guidance, she can grow into a nice housemate. We had to explicitly ask Milinda for a home with lots of treats. Because Milinda has already stayed in the shelter several times (not as a distance), we know her well by now, but it remains difficult to fully estimate how she will behave in a new home situation. She will need time to adapt and rebuild her trust. That's why we are looking for a family that has experience with dogs and can guide her in a calm and positive way. An active lifestyle is important, so Milinda gets enough exercise and mental challenge. Although she gets along well with her current dog friend Michael, we notice that she also benefits from rest and space for herself. An adoption together with her dog friend is possible, but certainly not a requirement.

NL·Show original

About Milinda

What life with Milinda looks like

Milinda is a large adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Gent in Gent.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milinda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milinda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Gent handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milinda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milinda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Gent will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milinda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milinda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Gent early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milinda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
