Milka

Labrador Retriever · Female · Adult · 7 years

MILKA was allowed to have her foster care basket in a foster home in Germany. There, MILKA lives completely without problems with other dogs. In terms of temperament, the dog is rather quiet and calm. MILKA is always well-behaved and friendly. She loves all people, whether big or small. MILKA shows no fears regarding everyday noises, the environment, and even the large farm machines do not disturb the sweet dog. MILKA is content with little and does not value large dog walks anymore. She is perfectly satisfied with short walks. MILKA is positive for Leishmaniosis. However, the values are stable. She is still being treated at the University Clinic in Munich. This treatment must continue. Due to Leishmaniosis, the dog sometimes limps. We are looking for a permanent, loving home for MILKA. The lovable dog is looking for HER people, who want to give her many more beautiful years of life. MILKA fits perfectly into a family that also prefers a quiet lifestyle. With MILKA, a friendly dog soul will enrich the life of HER future people. MILKA wants to be loved by HER people and simply be there. It would be nice if the lovely Labrador puppy found a dog friend in her future home. But MILKA would also be happy if she had HER people all to herself. We would be happy to advise you on questions regarding the Leishmaniosis illness. If MILKA has touched your heart and you want to give the sweet dog a basket for life, then we look forward to your inquiry. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or situations they haven't learned yet and need time to adjust to their new life. Here is MILKA's video.

About Milka

What life with Milka looks like

Milka is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
