Adopt Maxim

Labrador Retriever · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our animal protectors report: On their daily trip to supply the street dogs at specific collection points, our animal protector Paula discovered a four-month-old puppy on a field, whom she later named Maxim. Weak, undernourished, and suffering from a cold, he was already looking towards his end. His little heart was full of fear and hopelessness. He had obviously been abandoned. Without his caring mother, food, and water, and being sick in the December cold, he was doomed to die. Only a miracle could help him now, and that happened when our Paula took him to her shelter. There, he was cleaned and especially treated medically and gradually regained his strength. Finally, he was protected and safe, and of course, he had regular food. Since then, Maxim has been living peacefully in the small shelter with other dogs in a group and shows openness and friendliness towards both males and females. He also learned that there are people he can trust and the respectful treatment of cats. Maxim is people-oriented, playful, athletic, and active. He loves to be petted, enjoys play and fun, and very much wishes for a cozy basket in a loving home where he can enjoy his love of movement. How gladly he would like to walk with his big and small humans across meadows and through forests and roll in the grass. All of this was denied to him in his previous life. Except for the shelter, Maxim knows nothing else and must learn about life inside and outside a house. He wants to move into a home with people who give him space and time to settle in, learn everything new, and are fond of being outdoors. Maxim is also suitable for a family with children, provided they know how to treat a pet respectfully. Who opens their heart to the active Maxim, gives him love and security, and shows him the beautiful sides of a family dog's life? Please note: The responses from the shelters reflect the current behavior of the animals here for adoption.

All das blieb ihm in seinem bisherigen Leben versagt. About Maxim

What life with Maxim looks like

Maxim is a large puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxim, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxim?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxim on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxim if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maxim already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxim isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxim and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
