Adopt Milla

Mixed Breed · Female

Milla, a wonderful mix of German Shepherd and Herdenschutzhund, is on the lookout for a new, loving home after an unexpected private separation. Her foster family describes her as a true dream dog: clingy and cuddly, but never intrusive. Milla is a quiet, balanced female dog who responds easily to gestures and words. In everyday life, she is unobtrusive, loves her walks, and particularly enjoys car rides. Initially a bit excited in new environments, she now walks reliably on a leash and closely follows her primary caregiver. She follows commands like "sit," "stop," and "come" even from a distance – and then happily looks forward to a small treat. At home, she likes to find a comfortable spot, whether in the garden or the house, from which she can observe the goings-on. She greets visitors with a short "woof," but is not a constant barker. Even loud everyday noises or traffic are no problem for her. By the street, she waits patiently until it's safe to cross. Milla is very people-oriented and fits especially well into a quiet family that values relaxed walks and quality time together rather than action. She loves going for two long walks a day, where she is currently still building up her condition. She can't play with balls or toys yet – she prefers relaxed observation and walks together. During dog encounters, she sometimes shows insecurity or even aversion – here she needs a confident and dog-experienced handler who can provide her with a sense of security in her new home. In the outdoors, she has already shown herself to be a loyal and trusting companion: When things get tricky, she closely follows her human. She also reacts attentively to wild birds or cats but can be easily called back and calmed. Milla has a great foundation and is now searching for a family that meets her with calmness, safety, and love. She has more than earned the right to find a forever home.

About Milla

What life with Milla looks like

Milla is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
