Milou

Mixed Breed · Female

Our animal welfare workers report: Even the wonderful Milou was discovered personally by a member of our team – at the public shelter in Bârlad. She stood more in the background of her enclosure and cautiously wagged her tail. But as soon as her five enclosure companions stormed the fence, she immediately retreated. While the others seemed strong, Milou stood out in another way: she was clearly thinner than the others and appeared quiet, cautious, and incredibly delicate. A small soul that simply faded into the hustle and bustle of the enclosure. Fortunately, a loving foster mother also found herself for Milou, making her rescue possible. She also gave her the beautiful name: Milou. Thanks to her support, the little female dog was able to leave the shelter and move into safety in our foster home. There, the impression we already had on-site was confirmed. Our animal rescuers describe Milou with very touching words: "She is like an old soul in a young body. It seems as though she has experienced something far too big for her – and yet she is so kind and warm." These words hurt, especially because Milou is still so young. One can feel that she is still fragile at the moment and that her little heart needs time to heal. And yet, despite everything, she shows her gentleness and good nature. We are sure: With patience, love, and a safe home, Milou will bloom. She will learn that the world is not just made up of fear and evil – but also of security, affection, and people who mean well to her. For Milou, we wish a quiet, loving home with people of heart and patience who will give her the time she needs. People who will show her that she has finally arrived. Because this little, delicate female dog has so much deserved to feel joy in life again. Please note:

About Milou

What life with Milou looks like

Milou is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
