Mira

Pug · Female · Senior · 9 years

Mops Omi Mira is looking for a loving home. The little lady came to us as a surrender dog; her previous family had given her up due to overloading. During the surrender, Mira had a fist-sized hernia on her belly, contrary to initial fears, it was not the intestines but the uterus that had prolapsed through the abdominal wall. Two days later, she was neutered in a longer operation, but the hernia tissue could not be completely removed due to very thin skin. We hope that this skin will retract further over time, but Mira does not seem to mind. She is recovering in her foster home and is a calm and pleasant roommate, even remaining relaxed and stress-free during car rides. Clearly, Mira is a quality breeder. She has hardly any nose and suffers from typical respiratory problems. Future owners should therefore not only be patient and considerate with her but also have the necessary financial cushion, as Mira may require medical care in the future. A garden entrance would be ideal, but is not strictly necessary. Mira should not have to climb stairs; her home should be on ground level or accessible via an elevator, otherwise, she will need to be carried. Piece by piece, we are discovering not only a small stubborn streak but also the playful and cheerful side of dear Omi. She does not necessarily need large activities to be happy, but she loves lots of human interaction. After waking up, she sometimes needs to sort out her legs first, but then she can walk short distances quite briskly, especially when food is involved 😉. Mira can probably spend a small amount of time alone, but she is happiest when always around. If you would like to give this sweet senior lady a loving home, please write a meaningful email with details about your living situation to our animal caregivers.

About Mira

What life with Mira looks like

Mira is a large senior pug dog waiting at Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
