Adopt Mirela

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Our Mirela is an unpolished diamond. She is incredibly quick-witted and responsive, and very inquisitive. Mirela has a bit of integrity and wants to decide for herself when friendship is okay. As her human, you get the best friend you can have – one you earn by being open and welcoming. Mirela is soft and respectful in her interactions and wants her humans to be the same. Her wishes of you are that you have plenty of time to be together, enjoy being out in the woods and fields, and can dedicate a lot of time to petting mice and guinea pigs. Mirela is incredibly competent in her relationships with other dogs. She is a calming presence and has been a safe haven for her sister HH Raja, who has a cautious disposition. Mirela has also raised HH Ajax, whom she happily welcomed. She was kind and tolerant but very clear about setting boundaries for what was okay or not. Overall, Mirela is a star in dog company and has several really good friends. She has also met some of the colony’s cats and was curiously friendly towards them. For our rare Mirela, we now seek an eternal home where she is welcomed with open arms. The home should be in a quiet location and you should lead a somewhat quieter lifestyle. Not even the tiniest children should be around. Mirela would be spoiled if there was a nice doggy companion in the home, as she thrives in company. She would then have her own mentor but also a playmate and a safe haven. You must be aware that Mirela grew up behind protective walls and therefore has no exposure to her surroundings. She must never be pressured where she feels insecure – in new environments and before new people. Background: A scrappy street dog has few options. She has spent her entire life fighting to survive, and with a littermate, the situation becomes catastrophically difficult. This shy furtive found a place under a fallible concrete staircase at a parking lot where she gave birth to her six littermates; Mirela, Raja, Jackson, Akela, Baghera, and Zazu.

About Mirela

What life with Mirela looks like

Mirela is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mirela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mirela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mirela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mirela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mirela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mirela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mirela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
