Miri

Mixed Breed · Female

Description Our animal welfare workers report: We do not know how long Miri wandered around with an embedded wire noose around its neck before being sighted and rescued by an animal welfare worker from the street next to driving cars. We only know that it must have been a long time, because the thin wire was deeply embedded in the skin; we can only imagine the physical and emotional pain that the female dog must have endured, and this horrifying realization fills us with shock and great sorrow due to this suffering. We do not know how it came to be, but it is likely that the city’s brutal dog catchers used the wire and Miri somehow managed to escape while someone was trying to tighten the noose. Miri must have been on its own, as the wire, probably tightening over time or because it got stuck somewhere outside, tightened more and more. Or a horrifying thought, she may have grown up with the wire noose, carrying it since puppyhood. All conceivable scenarios are cruel and drive every animal welfare worker to despair and anger over the Romanian horror. Dogs are caught every day for the state’s killing stations; not tolerated, but actively promoted by policy – in an EU country! For this years of suffering and injustice to the innocent, for this great shame, for this complete moral failure, Mir’s story stands in for. Mir’s wire noose is the symbol for the ruthless, murderous system of Romania! For Miri, who did not lose her courage, who successfully underwent surgery, and who now resides in the safe care of a private animal shelter and gets along well with fellow animals as well as cats, we wish for a loving home that Miri has not known yet! Mir’s life up until now has only consisted of great pain, hunger, thirst, suffering, and expulsion! And yet, her little tail wags hopefully already. Her neck is healing well, the scar will not be visible when the fur grows back. Who takes Mir’s outstretched paw? Update07.04.2026 new pictures, new video Please note:. Gets along with other dogs.

Wer nimmt Miris ausgestreckte Pfote entgegen? About Miri

What life with Miri looks like

Miri is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miri, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miri?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miri on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miri if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miri already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miri isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miri and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
