Missy

Female · Senior · 11 years

Meet Missy, our sweet and affectionate 11-year-old Staffy girl. Missy is an absolute delight and loves everyone she meets. Friendly, gentle and full of affection, she's happiest when she's by your side enjoying plenty of fuss and attention. Now she's looking for a loving home where she can put her paws up and enjoy her well-earned retirement years. Since coming into our care, Missy has been making steady progress with her dog socialisation. She will need to be the only dog in the home for now, whilst new owners continue to build on her confidence around other dogs - in her own time and in neutral spaces. Missy is looking for a home away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with access to her own private garden where she can relax and potter about. She has previously lived with children and could potentially live with sensible older children who will respect her space and won't be too overwhelming for her in her golden years. Unfortunately, she isn't able to live with cats. Missy has shown signs of separation anxiety while in kennels and is not shy about using her singing voice to let everyone know she'd rather have company! Her new family should be prepared to gradually build up her time being left alone, and ideally have very minimal leaving hours while she settles into her new home. Missy is more than ready to find a family to call her own. She has so much love to give and will make a wonderfully loyal companion for the lucky people who welcome her into their lives. About Missy

What life with Missy looks like

Missy is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Missy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Missy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Missy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Missy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Missy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Missy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Missy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
