Adopt Mizso

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Origin Country: Hungary The beautiful and brave Mizso arrived in a terrible condition at the animal shelter. He was reported on May 5, 2025, by residents from the neighboring community of Lajosmizse, hence his name, Mizso. As can be seen in the entrance photos, he had cruel wounds on his neck and back. The vet report states: There are numerous superficial bite wounds on both hind legs, as well as a 4 cm long skin cut on the lateral side of the right front leg below the elbow, and deep, large-area bite wounds in the dorsal neck region. There are deep abscessed wounds in the neck region. Notably, there is a neurological dysfunction of one of the hind legs (involvement of the peroneal nerve). Three X-rays were taken. There is a proximal fracture of the right tibia. The neurological injuries make the prognosis uncertain. He does not require surgical treatment, but his wounds require further care. All the wounds are healing well, but the leg still causes us concern. The specialist in Budapest has confirmed the diagnosis of the treating vet and recommends the use of Milgamma Neuro and possibly physiotherapy. This will take 8-10 weeks because this is the estimated maximum time until the peripheral nerve function is restored. If no further improvement occurs, stabilization of the tarsocrural joint will stabilize the leg, and good function is achievable. In other words, an operation would be necessary. We are crossing our fingers for Mizso that everything will turn out well. Update: On July 8, 2025, Mizso underwent a tarsocrural fusion of the right knee in Budapest. Update from the vet on September 17, 2025: Mizso is doing well. The bone healing is almost complete, but the tarsometatarsal joint is slightly behind, which is still acceptable at this stage. A spongy bone graft would improve this in the future, but it is not yet clear if this will be necessary. At this time, no treatment is recommended for Mizso. Perhaps an X-ray could be taken in 1.5 months to check the fusion of the tarsometatarsal joint. Update from October 29, 2025: The healing is complete, and no further treatment is currently required. If there are signs of loosening of the tarsometatarsal joint, a spongy bone graft in this area is recommended. Despite everything, Mizso is a ray of sunshine and makes the most of his current situation. Mizso is a loving, open, and people-oriented four-legged friend, sometimes a bit stormy. A happy dog who wants to conquer and explore the world. He is very attached to people and loves it when they give him attention and affection. Mizso is a wise and eager learner and is delighted when his new human teaches him the basics and more of the doggie ABC step by step. He is a clever fellow, and it will surely be fun to work and train with him. He would certainly be a wonderful companion for anything that makes humans and dogs happy, as long as there is a good time together. With his fellow animals, Mizso gets along well, currently living with Desire in a kennel (as of February 10, 2026). For our dearest Mizso, we are looking for energetic, dog-experienced, and loving people who will welcome Mizso into their family forever. Dog training classes, dog-appropriate stimulation, clear leadership, lots of cuddles, a cozy dog bed, plenty of play and fun, enough quiet phases, and people to explore the world with him, would make Mizso very happy. On October 22, 2025, a voluntary, Hungarian helper writes: "Mizsó arrived in very poor condition in the care of the animal shelter in May 2025. In late October, his mentor took a short, easy walk with him. Although Mizsó had never seen his mentor before, the two quickly became friends. He is a loving, people-oriented, heart-warming, and friendly dog. He enjoyed the cuddles and affection of his mentor and actively sought contact. On the leash, he went well, even though he sometimes pulled it a little, there were so many new impressions. Nevertheless, he paid attention to his companion and reacted to his signals. He is clever, attentive, and interested. Mizsó enjoyed every minute of the walk and was delighted by the affection and the loving interaction." Mizso is ready for travel. A big thank you to Christine Bernhard for taking over the sponsorship of Mizso.

About Mizso

What life with Mizso looks like

Mizso is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mizso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mizso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mizso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mizso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mizso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mizso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mizso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
