Monty

Male · Senior · 11 years

Meet our little gentleman, Monty! He is in a foster home and located at London centre. Monty is a sweet older gentleman who arrived at Battersea alongside several canine companions from the same home. Since coming into our care, he has shown himself to be a gentle, sensitive soul who has made wonderful progress and continues to show so much potential. Having had very little experience of the outside world, Monty can initially find new environments overwhelming. However, with patient, gentle support from his carers at Battersea and in his foster home, he has been growing in confidence every day. He has also been receiving extra help to become comfortable wearing walking equipment, as this is all very new to him. Monty is looking for a quiet home with a secure garden in a peaceful location, where he can continue to build his confidence at his own pace. He will need kind, understanding owners who are happy to take things one paw at a time, allowing him to discover the world gradually and reassuring him along the way. Although he may be shy to begin with, we have no doubt that once Monty has settled into a loving home, his true personality will shine through, he is already showing his affectionate side in his foster home. Watching him blossom into a more confident dog will be an incredibly rewarding experience for his future family. Despite being an older chap who can occasionally be a little unsteady on his feet, Monty still enjoys having a little spring in his step. He has shown some lovely, polite social skills with both people and other dogs, and would be happiest with owners who are patient, gentle and committed to helping him continue his confidence-building journey. Monty could happily live with another calm, steady dog who can help him settle into home life and enjoy plenty of cosy naps together in a big comfy bed. About Monty

What life with Monty looks like

Monty is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Monty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Monty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Monty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Monty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Monty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Monty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Monty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
