Nash

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

For an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with young children. Information: At the beginning of March 2026, some of our team members visited Elisa's animal shelter in Romania, with which we work closely. Only the dogs that we expect will be happy in the Netherlands - and their adopters with the dog - are matched by us. Nash certainly belongs to that group! Nash showed himself during our visit as a friendly, open and playful pup, enjoying our attention. Due to the stress of staying in a large and overcrowded animal shelter, some pups become more reserved as the weeks progress. Fortunately, this is not true for all pups; we cannot yet predict how Nash will develop. We can always ask Elisa for an update. And above all, we hope we can find a nice, suitable place for Nash in the Netherlands soon. Because generally speaking, the younger a currently lively pup can leave this animal shelter, the greater the chance that adapting to life as a house dog will proceed relatively smoothly. The videos further down on this page give a good impression of Nash and his littermates. Background: This pup was found together with his brothers and sisters. The entire litter of puppies was dumped, literally at a trash heap... Unfortunately, this is common in Romania. Many people who keep dogs in their yard or property do not have money to pay for sterilization costs. Or they don't consider it important - that also happens. So endlessly many unwanted puppies are born - and abandoned. 🥺 The video below was made by our contact person Elisa and tells the story of these pups:

About Nash

What life with Nash looks like

Nash is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nash, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nash?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nash on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nash if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nash already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nash isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nash and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
