Neo

Male · Senior · 9 years

Neo had to move in with us with a heavy heart after his beloved owner passed away. Now, this loyal dog longs once again for people who will welcome him and allow him to spend his golden years in a safe and loving environment. Once Neo has built up trust, he proves to be an exceptionally affectionate, cuddly, and loving companion. He loves spending time with his humans and would happily tag along everywhere. He particularly enjoys playing with balls and sticks as well as engaging in activities together with his people. With his previous owner, Neo was often allowed to roam off-leash and proved to be a reliable companion. Yet he also walks calmly on a leash. Only during close encounters with other dogs might he briefly bark. At the animal shelter, however, he shows himself to be very social: he lives effortlessly in a large dog group and gets along wonderfully with all his canine companions. Driving in the car is also one of his strengths—though Neo prefers traveling without a dog crate. He already knows several basic commands and carries them out reliably. Neo is not familiar with children in everyday life. Therefore, we’d like to find him a quiet home without children, as he’s no longer young. On the other hand, he has no objections to occasional visits from children. Neo barks at cats, so a cat-free household would be better suited for him. Right now, Neo is carrying a few extra pounds. With regular exercise, balanced walks, and an adjusted diet, he’d love to lose some weight—and he’d certainly appreciate people who support him lovingly in this process. Neo is an easygoing, loyal, and lovable dog who longs for nothing more than people who treat him with patience, empathy, and love. If you give Neo your heart, you’ll gain a loyal friend for life. Would you like to get to know Neo? Then we look forward to hearing from you.

DE·Show original

About Neo

What life with Neo looks like

Neo is a senior dog waiting at Sitterhöfli in Engelburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Neo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Neo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sitterhöfli handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Neo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Neo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sitterhöfli will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Neo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Neo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sitterhöfli early rather than rehoming privately; they know Neo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
