Nero

Mixed Breed · Male

Nero came to the animal shelter in Milanówk in 2019 after the death of his caregiver. He is an exceptionally unique mix of a terrier and an American Staffordshire, which resulted in a beautiful coat and an unmatched charm. His charm has attracted many people visiting the animal shelter. But as everyone knows, looks are not everything... If they were, Nero would have already been sharing a couch with his humans. Definitely, this is a dog that needs an experienced person, someone who loves challenges and is ready to work with a dog (best under the supervision of a behaviorist). When Nero arrived at the animal shelter, he clearly made it known that he is not a cuddly type who loves human company. His main shelter caretaker had to start the relationship with him almost from scratch. Now, Nero already knows that human touch can be pleasant. He often demands petting and affection from the caregivers he trusts and knows well. He has also begun to open up to new people, which means more volunteers can now take care of him. Nero's favorite activities are playing with balls and swimming. Additionally, he walks nicely on a leash, but he likes to attend to his own doggy business and is not particularly interested in the person on the other end of the leash. It should also be noted that for Nero, balls and other toys have exceptional value, so he sometimes shows resource guarding issues. We are looking for people who will work with a behaviorist to address this issue with him. With other dogs, Nero behaves neutrally. He never seeks out fights with them, but he also doesn't encourage them to play together. Most likely, he could join a home with dog residents, but this would need to be preceded by a very thorough introduction. For Nero, a home without children is sought. It should also be noted that the adoption process may take longer than for other dogs, since Nero does not immediately trust newly met people. Before and after adoption, we provide free consultations with the behaviorist currently working with Nero.

PL·Show original

About Nero

What life with Nero looks like

Nero is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
