Neva

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

We wish we could keep every dog that comes into our care through our spay and neuter programs, but we know that is simply not possible. Some dogs, however, cannot be returned to the neighborhoods where they happened to be living, either because they are too vulnerable due to illness or because of their age. That is how Neva came to our shelter, and she will only leave us again when she finds her forever home. A black and white puppy, fluffy and innocent, with wide, round brown eyes filled with the purity of childhood, watching and trying to make sense of the world around her. With patience and love, we want to show her that the world can be a beautiful place, that people can be kind, and that life can be good. When Neva first arrived, we thought she would grow into a large dog because she had features that resembled those of a livestock guardian dog. But as time passed, Neva showed no signs of becoming the big shepherd-type dog we expected. Instead, she grew into a medium-sized dog who remains fluffy and gentle, but also carries a fair amount of distrust toward people. We do not know exactly why. Or perhaps we have an idea: Neva had a predisposition that, unfortunately, we were not able to help her overcome effectively while she was still a young puppy. Even so, she is cooperative and tolerant. She happily wears her harness, enjoys her walks, and accepts affection from the people she knows and trusts, especially those who do not pressure her into situations that make her uncomfortable. We believe Neva has all the potential to become a loving and devoted companion, provided she joins a home where she is given the space and time she needs to adjust and where trust can be built gradually and consistently.

About Neva

What life with Neva looks like

Neva is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Save a Greek Stray in Metsovo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Neva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Neva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Save a Greek Stray handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Neva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Neva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Save a Greek Stray will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Neva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Neva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Save a Greek Stray early rather than rehoming privately; they know Neva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
