adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Nico has found a home! His story: Nico is an energetic and playful young male dog who grows up together with his siblings Sinbad and Jordi. Like his siblings, he is a friendly and social dog who seeks the company of humans and enjoys being petted. He also gets along well with his fellow animals, showing playful and sociable behavior. Whether he is compatible with cats has not yet been tested. As a puppy, Nico is in an important developmental phase. The world is still new to him, and he is learning every day. His new family should be aware that he still needs to learn the dog ABC, such as leash training, housebreaking, and being left alone. Puberty is also approaching in a few months – a phase where he will likely test his limits and sometimes seemingly forget what he has learned. Patience, loving consequences, and the right support are needed. Attending a positively working dog training class can help him become a balanced and loyal companion. Nico may show typical characteristics of a Chow-Chow. Dogs of this lineage are often independent, intelligent, and can show a certain degree of independence. At the same time, they are also loyal and closely connected to their humans. Therefore, his future family should be ready to give him security and orientation with a calm but consistent upbringing. With the right guidance, he will develop into a wonderful companion. For Nico, we are looking for a loving home where he can grow up with patience and affection. Anyone who enjoys showing a young dog the world and learning together with him will find in Nico a lively and loyal companion. Nico travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He possesses an EU pet passport and can be transported after a positive our area. A big thank you goes to Martina K., you gave Nico the chance to start anew with his name! As of: 12.03.

Stand: 12.03.2025

About Nico

What life with Nico looks like

Nico is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
