Adopt Nik

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

During our project tour in May 2024, we, as always, visited our partner animal shelter in Arzachena. There were some new arrivals that they wanted to introduce to us. One of these new arrivals was this handsome male dog: Nik. Nik was found homeless in early March 2024. He was not microchipped, and no one was looking for him. So he was registered at the Canile. Nik is not only a very handsome dog with his slender build. He is also friendly and attentive. Nik was delighted with our attention and the cuddles. We hope very much that we can spare Nik the fate that so many dogs in the Canile suffer—being confined there for the rest of their lives. The dogs at Canile Arzachena fare relatively well. They have large enclosures, and they get enough food. But there is a lack of human affection. Not because the staff do not want it, but because they simply do not have enough time. It is so sad to see such beautiful, friendly dogs confined. Where are the loving people who want to take Nik into their family? On September 1, 2025, a team colleague and her daughter sacrificed part of their vacation time to personally meet some of the shelter dogs, and Nik was not to be left out. Nik had probably had little contact with people before. It was wonderful to see how attentively he observed his visitors, remaining friendly, and even allowing cuddles. He showed no signs of touch anxiety, appearing calm, composed, and surprisingly at ease. Nik is an impressive dog who, despite his background, shows great potential. Now he just needs people with patience and hearts to show him how wonderful life outside the Canile can be. Would you like to give Nik this chance? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption brings not only great joy but also a lot of work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We facilitate adoptions nationwide.

About Nik

What life with Nik looks like

Nik is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
