Niña

Podenco · Female · Senior · 9 years

Girl - a quiet dog is looking for a understanding home again. Niña had actually found her home. She was able to move into her own home from her foster home and seemed to have settled in. Now she is facing a new beginning again. Fortunately, the sweet girl could move back to her previous foster home, where she is now waiting for a suitable and this time hopefully permanent home. For a dog like Niña, a move always means a big change. Especially sensitive dogs, which rely strongly on bonding and trust, need reliability and clear structures. If this security is taken away, it can cause uncertainty again. Niña is an older Podenco-Maneto dog who is blind. Despite her limitations, she usually copes well in a quiet and stable environment. She relies on her keen sense of hearing and her nose and moves confidently through daily life if she knows her surroundings. Apart from the shocking situations, Niña is still described as a calm, gentle and very loving dog. She enjoys the company of her people, seeks contact when she wants it, and also independently withdraws when she needs peace. She is one of the quiet dogs that do not have big demands for action, but rather seek security, routine and comfort. She is usually compatible and social with other dogs. A confident first dog can give her additional orientation, but is not a must. We are looking for a home for Niña with people who are willing to take into account the needs of a blind dog and give her the necessary security in daily life. A quiet environment, clear routines and respectful, forward-looking treatment are especially important for her. Niña lives peacefully with a child at her foster home - but it is important that any children in her new home are either older or at least have experience with dogs. The decision to get a dog - especially a dog with limitations and a history - should never be made lightly. Niña needs people who take responsibility, take her signals seriously, and are willing to give her the stability she so desperately needs. At the same time, she has everything that makes living with a special dog so valuable: calmness, gentleness and a deep, quiet form of attachment. Whoever gives Niña this chance not only gives her a home, but also the opportunity to finally spend her golden years in safety. Here you can watch Niña's video Here you can watch Video 2

About Niña

What life with Niña looks like

Niña is a large senior podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Niña, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Niña?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Niña on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Niña if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Niña already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Niña isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Niña and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
