Niomi

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

At the animal shelter since: February 2024 Estimated age: born around October 2021 Estimated shoulder height: about 60 – 69 cm Get to know Niomi directly in the video! Marked by the past, the female dog Niomi now longs for love and affection! Niomi once had a home until her owners gave her up at the animal shelter due to an eye infection. Learn more about dogs in Romania in our animal protection FAQ. Niomi spent her first years without love, affection or contact with other animals in a backyard. Accordingly, she was frightened and reserved when she came to the animal shelter. Initially, she withdrew fearfully when people approached and flinched at loud noises. Now, the white female dog has made great progress. Niomi has blossomed, shows curiosity, playfulness and interest in her surroundings. She is very happy to have visitors, greets the caretakers wagging her tail and actively seeks their company. Although she is not particularly cuddly, she allows herself to be touched and petted everywhere. She is also very relaxed when putting on the harness. During walks, she explores the environment curiously, sniffs a lot and pays attention while on the leash. Niomi reacts calmly to barking in her vicinity and remains composed - as long as no new stimuli are added. In unfamiliar environments, she is still easily startled. She is partially compatible with other dogs, so a slow buildup of contacts is recommended. Niomi has hip dysplasia, which is more pronounced on the left hip. In addition, she suffered from conjunctivitis in both eyes and a unilateral entropion on the lower eyelid, which is why she had to be operated on. Our adoption team knows best about the exact health condition. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message. For Niomi, we are looking for a quiet, rural home with experienced people, ideally without children, where she can continue to build trust and explore her environment at her own pace. We wish for this furry nose people who are aware that rescue dogs bring along a certain story. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. Therefore, we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance and goodwill. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering an adoption, please read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to write our adoption team a message. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Niomi

What life with Niomi looks like

Niomi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Niomi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Niomi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Niomi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Niomi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Niomi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Niomi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Niomi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
