adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Nistru did not have an easy start in life. As a puppy, he arrived at an open shelter in Romania with his sister Dora and grew up among many other dogs. Life outside of fenced areas, the proximity to humans, and the many impressions of our world remained foreign to him for a long time. Today, Nistru is approximately 4 years old, about 54 cm tall, and a sensitive, cautious male dog who approaches new situations step by step. He is full of curiosity, but uncertainty still accompanies him. Sometimes he takes a small step forward, only to retreat shortly after. It is clear that he would like to trust, but he needs time and the right support. Nistru carefully seeks contact with trusted people and orientates himself to them. He is still reserved towards strangers and prefers to observe from a safe distance. With patience, calmness, and empathy, his trust can be built up. Those who give him this time will witness how he slowly begins to open up. Nistru gets along well with fellow animals. He currently lives in a pack and does well there, but he does not seek a close contact with other dogs. A confident, only dog may be present, but it is not a must. For Nistru, we wish for a quiet, more rural home, far from hustle and bustle and many distractions. People who do not overwhelm him but give him security and gently introduce him to the new world. Since he likely does not know life in a household, he needs to learn the dog 1×1. A visit to a positively working dog training class can be beneficial for him and additionally strengthen his self-confidence. Although Nistru often appears introverted, a gentle soul lies behind his reserve, waiting to be seen. With the right people by his side, he has the chance to gain trust and grow step by step into a loyal companion. Nistru is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He travels with an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive our area. Stand: 22.04.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Nistru hatte keinen einfachen Start ins Leben. Stand: 22.04.2026

About Nistru

What life with Nistru looks like

Nistru is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nistru, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nistru?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nistru on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nistru if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nistru already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nistru isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nistru and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
