Adopt Nova

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 6 months

* for an explanation, read Why we are careful to place our dogs in families with young children please. Information: At the beginning of May 2026, some of our team members visited Elisa's asylum in Romania for a week, with which we worked closely together. Only the dogs we expect will be happy in the Netherlands - and their adopters with the dog - will be mediated by us. Nova is one of them! Nova showed herself as an open, cheerful puppy during our visit, enjoying our attention. The stress of staying in a large and overcrowded asylum makes some pups more reluctant as the weeks progress. Luckily, not all pups; We can't predict yet how Nova will develop. However, we can always ask Elisa for an update. And most importantly: We hope to find a nice, suitable place for Nova in the Netherlands. Because in general, the younger a still cheerful puppy can leave this asylum, the more likely it will be to adapt to a life as a house dog relatively smoothly. The videos on this page give a good picture of Nova and her nestmates. Background: This girl was found with her brothers and sisters. The whole litter of puppies was dumped, literally at a trash pile... Unfortunately, this is the case in Romania. Many people who keep dogs in their garden or yard have no money to pay the cost of sterilization. Or they don't care - that happens. So there are endlessly unwanted puppies born - and dumped. . The video below is made by our contact Elisa and tells the story of these pups:

About Nova

What life with Nova looks like

Nova is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nova, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nova?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nova on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nova if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nova already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nova isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nova and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
