Adopt Nuir

Mixed Breed · Male

Nuir was found in a city near Xàtiva. It was very difficult to catch him as he was extremely mistrustful of people. Little is known about his past, but his behavior suggests that he has had few positive experiences with humans. Early on, it became clear that Nuir has a mild coordination disorder. At first, the vet suspected a problem with his legs, so X-rays were taken and anti-inflammatory medication was administered. Since his condition did not improve, it turned out that the cause is likely neurological. His limitation is mainly that he sometimes appears unsteady when standing and may lose his balance. Behaviorally, Nuir was very shy and reserved from the start. He needs a lot of time to build trust. On quiet days at the animal shelter, he is more approachable and sometimes allows being stroked, even seeming to enjoy the contact. On busier days, especially on Saturdays when many visitors are at the animal shelter, he is very fearful and avoids people completely. With other dogs, however, Nuir behaves completely unproblematically. He is friendly to all fellow animals and loves playing with the younger dogs. Nuir has settled into the animal shelter but remains a cautious dog who avoids contact with people. His reaction to touch is mixed—he sometimes allows it, but other times he retreats. His greatest security is in the company of other dogs. His coordination disorder only slightly affects his daily life. He can move, play, and frolic normally, though standing sometimes appears a bit unsteady. Nuir needs a patient home where he can take his time getting used to new surroundings. He is an independent dog who does not necessarily seek a close bond with people, so his future owners should accept that he may never become a devoted companion. A home with other dogs would be ideal for him, as he looks to them for orientation and feels comfortable in their company. A confident, only-dog home could help him gain security. A quiet environment, preferably in the countryside, would suit him better than a lively city apartment. It is uncertain whether Nuir would continue to develop in a home environment. He resembles the dog Cotó, who also took time to build trust. His future family should therefore have understanding for his cautious nature and not expect rapid progress. Nuirs shoulder height is estimated to be around 55 to 60 cm, as he is still too shy to measure him accurately.

About Nuir

What life with Nuir looks like

Nuir is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nuir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nuir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nuir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nuir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nuir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nuir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nuir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
