Nyx

Border Collie · Female · Adult · 7 years

Nyx is a beautiful girl, affectionate, sweet natured, calm and chilled-out with a good overall temperament. She failed her sheep dog training and instead would adore building a bond with a person, or a family. She is a ‘people’ dog and always runs to greet her humans with a big waggy tail. She loves a fuss and snuggles. She walks nicely on her lead and she has good recall. She loves treats so why not teach her some new skills using positive reward training. Nyx has experience of being around other dogs on the farm and visitors coming to the farm with other dogs. She is not used to playing with toys however, when she visited us here at the rehoming centre she enjoyed having a squeaky chicken. Toy play may be something she can enjoy in her new home. One for the Collie fans? Meet the wonderful Nyx. A seven-year-old Collie looking for a loving home. She could potentially live with another dog in the home and would benefit from having opportunities to socialise with other dogs when out and about on her walks. Nyx has a high chase drive and will need a home without cats, small furries, and care will be needed around livestock. She has a lovely temperament around people, including experience with children and could share her home with primary school aged children. Nyx has come from a farm environment and may need help with her housetraining. She is fearful of car travel and is seeking a home with lovely walks right on her doorstep. She could cope with a reasonably busy home environment and as she has not lived in a house before time left alone is best built up gradually and positively. Experience of the breed would be helpful.

About Nyx

What life with Nyx looks like

Nyx is a large adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nyx, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nyx?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nyx on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nyx if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nyx already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nyx isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nyx and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
