Adopt Odin

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 15 years

Every day, morning and evening, she went down to feed the little black cat at the foot of her building. Born in the street, it was very wild and did not let anyone approach it. For more than 15 years, they became companions, and in recent days, she could clearly see that something was wrong. She contacted us through one of our volunteers. It didn't last long, and it was taken to the care center. After a few days of observation, it was presented to the veterinarian. We knew it wasn't doing well, it was drinking a lot, too much. We put it to sleep, the examination started with the mouth and unsurprisingly, the mouth of a 15-year-old cat, but nothing serious. An abscess under the chin, which isn't seriously either. We checked the kidneys, both seemed normal. It was when palpating the abdomen that we found the source of its illness. On the liver, a large mass, like an orange. A little further, another smaller tumor. With the one in the mouth, the fate of Odin was sealed. This little cat of 15 years will not wake up and will not return to the care center. He didn't have much longer, a few days, at most one or two weeks. We call his feeder. She cries, of course... She is also relieved, she had only one fear, that he would leave alone in his corner. We are sad, we had grown attached, we caressed him. The phone rings, a cat in bad condition is reported on the right bank. We leave again, a cage has just become free, it will welcome Socrates.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at AdopteUnChat.org in Châteauneuf-du-Faou.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. AdopteUnChat.org handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — AdopteUnChat.org will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with AdopteUnChat.org early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
