adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Odin is one of those dogs you simply can't forget. With his shiny chocolate brown fur, his loyal gaze, and his adorable little pouty mouth, he immediately captivates people. But it's his nature that truly touches: friendly, open, people-oriented, and full of joy. Odin enjoys every pat, seeks the closeness of people, and is delighted by every bit of attention you give him. And although Odin is now around 8.5 years old and thus considered a senior, he still carries so much joy and energy within him. He loves walks, explores his surroundings curiously, and goes through life openly and confidently. That's why we wish so much that this wonderful dog doesn't spend his golden years in the shelter but finally gets to experience what a real home feels like. Odin was rescued from the public shelter in Zalău, Romania – a place where, unfortunately, dogs are still killed when there's no room. For many dogs, that's the end of their hope. Odin was lucky and was able to leave that place. But instead of a warm bed and his own family, he still awaits being seen. With his shoulder height of about 55 cm and a weight of around 25 kg, Odin has a pleasant medium size. Our helpers suspect that a brindle-mixed breed is in him – and much speaks for it: Odin is active, attentive, and full of energy. At the same time, he shows a very people-oriented and clingy side. He walks wonderfully on a leash and clearly enjoys his walks. With other dogs, he shows friendliness and social compatibility. Whether he knows cats, we don't know yet. His shortened tail is likely a result of an old operation or an injury, which is why Odin unfortunately can't be rehomed to Switzerland. Additionally, Odin is blind in one eye. But this doesn't noticeably affect his everyday life – he moves about accordingly safely, orients himself well, and continues to meet his environment curiously and openly. His joy for life has remained intact despite everything. For Odin, we wish active people with hearts who want to show an older dog once again how wonderful life can be. People who enjoy walks together, small adventures, and a close family connection. Despite his age, Odin still wants to experience something, belong, and be loved. Seniors like him are often overlooked – but they have so much love to give. Odin travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated together with his EU home animal passport to his new home. Even a foster home would be a great chance for him to finally settle down and find his place. Odin has held out for so long and never given up. Now, all he's missing is people who show him that his life doesn't have to end in the shelter but that a new chapter full of love can begin for a senior. Are you ready to start a new journey with Odin? Then off the couch and go! Odin is looking forward to your request. Thank you, Katrin G.! With your namesake sponsorship, you've given Odin the chance at a new life. As of 19.05.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 19.05.2026

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
