adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Odin has found his people! His story: Odin's story will touch hearts! This approximately 11-year-old and so lovable male dog was found in such a terrible and neglected state that even our helpers had to struggle with much daily suffering. Odin's fur was so dirty, matted, and tangled that the poor fellow must have suffered immensely. It's easy to imagine that the lonely Odin was initially very mistrustful of people. Now, he has become more approachable, and one might even think that he looks forward to it. Especially when he discovers his food bowl, he dances and smiles with excitement. It seems that the old male dog has had to endure hunger his entire life. However, he shows discomfort when touched or when the dog harness is put on. This behavior is not meant maliciously but stems from his uncertainty about how to appropriately react to such situations. For the 62 cm tall and only 27 kg heavy Herdenschutzhund-Mix, we are looking for very experienced dog lovers who understand his breed and its needs and can guide him confidently. Also, age-appropriate stimulation is important for his well-being. Ideally, he should live in a house with an enclosed garden in a rural area, with as few trusted people and external distractions as possible. Odin needs a solid bond and a lot of sensitivity to learn at least the basic rules of dog training. As a former stray, he knows nothing of domestic events and has never experienced socialization. Therefore, he enters a completely new and confusing world that will initially overwhelm him. The acclimation requires mainly patience and calmness to win his trust and heart. His compatibility with other animals seems to be okay, but he currently has limited opportunities to interact with them. Cats in his household would be excluded. Should Odin be allowed to travel into the freedom, he would be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered. He possesses an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive health check. Who will help Odin's sad life story end with a well-deserved happy ending? A heartfelt thank you goes to Pia A., who named Odin. A big thank you also goes to Tanja K., who took on a monthly sponsorship for Odin. As of: 17.10.

Stand: 17.10.2024

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
